Brooks-TLC Hospital System, Inc. (BTLC) has announced the retirement of John R. Tallett, MD, long time hospital medical director and president of Lake Erie Medical Services, P.C.  A well-known obstetrics & gynecology specialist in Chautauqua county, Dr. Tallett has served the health care needs of women for 52 years.

A native of London, England, Dr. Tallett graduated from King’s College London School Of Medicine, University Of London Medical School in 1969.  He emigrated from England to Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1972 to serve as senior resident at Saint Michael’s Hospital where he earned a Canadian fellowship in Ob/Gyn.  He later operated a private practice in Etobicoke before moving to northern Chautauqua county with his wife, Joan.

In addition to his professional degree in medicine, throughout his career, Dr. Tallett earned numerous credentials including Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians (LCRP), Membership of The Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS),  Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Diploma from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (DRCOG), Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Canada (FRCSC), and Fellow of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG).

During his tenure in the community, Dr. Tallett owned a private practice in Fredonia and served on the medical staff at Brooks Memorial and Lake Shore hospitals, later named Brooks-TLC Hospital System, Inc., Westfield and Tri-County hospitals, and at many nursing homes in the region.  In 1998, he was appointed part-time vice president of medical affairs at Brooks Memorial Hospital, where upon closing his practice, he later became part-time medical director in 2013.  With the formation of Lake Erie Medical Services, P.C., in association with Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dr. Tallett was appointed president in 2011.

In cooperation with other hospitals in the community, Dr. Tallett was a founding member of Chautauqua County Health Network (CCHN) with a goal of strengthening the local health and wellness delivery system in Chautauqua county. He is a current member of the Chautauqua County Board of Health and served 3 years as chair.

“Dr. Tallett has contributed as a highly respected leader in the medical community for many years,” states Mary LaRowe, president and CEO. “He has dedicated his career to the care of women in Chautauqua county and advancing the interests of hospitals and the patients we serve.  We will miss his cheerful disposition within our halls and wish him the very best in his retirement,” LaRowe said.

A member of Shorewood County Club, Dunkirk, Dr. Tallett plans to golf more in retirement, and spend time at his second residence in Ft. Myers, FL.  He and Joan have 4 adult children and 2 granddaughters.  “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with my colleagues at BTLC and have always been impressed with the care delivered to the patients we serve,” Tallett said.  Once borders are opened for post-COVID travel, they plan to visit their children who reside in Buffalo, Toronto, and Zurich, Switzerland.
